“Man,” he said, “What the hell’s happened in the last 12 years?  I mean, am I crazy or stupid?  Life was good … there was enough work. Our biggest problems were Monica and Y2K! The budget had a surplus, we weren’t going broke.

 

“How’d it happen so fast?  A country this big?  In 1999 we were the only superpower!  Now we’re broken and exhausted.

“I had a lot of hope for Obama.  I thought he’d put it back together."

Shaking his head, looking at his shoes, “Maybe if he hadn’t been black…”

All I could think was “Stupid Liberal.”
