Random Baby:
Year 2012
Too young to think, you can only expect. You expect to be fed, to be comforted, to be loved. It’s right to expect these things.
But further than that…?
When I began as a random baby in America , I was
taught to expect more. I expected that
things would always get better, that there would be more food, more comfort,
more love.
Now I’m told such expectations are
selfish. Now I’m told to expect scarcer
food, character-building hard times and respect – not love.
Dear Random Baby 2012, I’ll persist in
expecting a better world for you. I’ll
do my
best.
