The Bully Pulpit
“you know you are not worthy. You know, in your heart, how craven, how
selfish, how unworthy you are.
“thankfully, it isn’t too late; you
can be redeemed. You can be better, do
better, think better, raise better children.
“I will show you how. I will lead you into the light. we will bring about a better tomorrow.
“The evildoers will be punished, the voices
of vice will be silenced & temptations will be banished. I will lead the way by pointing out the
sinners among us.
“it's my job, I was elected president & I will save your soul.”

Hi Mickey, Your 100 Word Stories always strike a chord that is like a wake-up call. I went back through and re-read some of them, and this one is kind of scary to think about. I like the way you wrote it, and I sense it's seriousness and humor. Thanks, Steph
ReplyDeleteThanks Stephie,
ReplyDeleteThanks.
I wonder how many people got the word play of the title. Some people I know were not familiar w/the Bully Pulpit term (from Teddy Roosevelt) as the Presidency.... and it was 'cute' to use 'bully' in the way we usually do now - a bully.
Anyway, the discipline of 100 words is making me a deeper writer. I'm learning how to use the 'blank spots'. When I took art classes, they always tried to make you see the negative spaces, what wasn't there, because that is usually a bigger part of the picture.
